Dramaturgy & Script Consultancy

Drawing on his experience as a playwright and a drama teacher, Ned has been offering dramaturgical support for playwrights of all ages and experience for many years. He specialises in helping writers tell their stories in a theatrical setting by providing practical guidance. This includes character development, story arcs and staging practicalities.
Ned developed a playwrighting program at Newtown Performing Arts High School where
every student in Year 10 was involved in writing and performing their own plays. The
success of this program convinced him of the potential of playwrighting in an educational
context and has seen him continue to provide dramaturgical support for students at both
secondary and tertiary level.
In heading up a partnership between The Melbourne Theatre Company, Arts Victoria and
Bendigo Senior Secondary College, Ned helped local and Karen refugee students write and
perform their own plays in Bendigo and at the MTC.
As well writing his own plays, Ned has developed scripts for Bell Shakespeare’s Actors at
Work program, taught playwriting at Monash University and developed the first play written
about the Stolen Generation with students at the EORA Centre for Aboriginal Performing and
Visual Arts.
